Republicans Threaten To Defund The Federal Government If Obamacare Is Not Defunded
Republicans have threatened to shutdown the government in order to defund Obamacare… Well, some republicans. The issue has caused a wide divide between GOP politicians.
Republican Senator Mike Lee is a Tea Party leader who threatened the shut down. But now he said on FOX that there will be no overthrowing Obamacare. He said, “We all know that the government’s going to get funded. The question is whether the government gets funded with Obamacare or without it.”

Lee and his colleagues recently said they would refuse to let the federal government remain open after September 30 if the Affordable Care Act (AKA Obamacare) is still set to be funded and fully implemented.
But other GOP politicians said this claim was just a publicity stunt for attention, and it looks like they may have been right. Lee is a practical Tea Party leader, and now admits that Obama will never sign a bill that defunds his beloved health care act.
Still, he hates Obamacare and wants it defunded ASAP. Lee said, “If the president’s not ready to implement the law, if it’s not ready for prime time, Congress shouldn’t fund it.” He said the fact that Obama and his cronies delayed the employer mandate until 2014 is proof that the bill is political in nature and not ready to be implemented on a large scale.
As reported by the Huffington Post:
Criticism of Lee’s proposal mounted among his colleagues last week, with Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) calling it the ”dumbest idea” he’d ever heard of A group of more than 60 House Republicans tried to push a similar effort via a letter to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), but Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) on Sunday joined the ranks of GOP lawmakers to pour cold water on the idea.
“We should not be closing down the government under any circumstances. That doesn’t work; it’s wrong,” King said during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Candy Crowley.” “And Obamacare passed … We have to try to defund it. We have to try to find ways to repeal it, [but] the fact is we shouldn’t be using it as a threat to shut down the government.”
“I would put the debt ceiling in a different category,” he added. “There’s no reason to bring down the government. Let’s make this work. Let’s get the spending cuts we need. The American people get turned off with the threat of terror politics.”
It’s unfortunate that our leaders are not willing to band together, stand up, and do something drastic to defund Obamacare, which is the biggest government power-grab of our generation.
