BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - One of the state's most popular guns has been banned under New York's SAFE Act. But now, officials say they've found a way to get the gun back on store shelves.
Firearms manufactures have modified the popular AR-15 assault rifle to meet the new standards. Attorney James Tresmond says it's a big step towards interpreting the new SAFE Act.
"The AR-15, as we have come to know it, is no longer banned from being sold in New York State, if it meets certain requirements, and those are no pistol grip, no muzzle break and no detachable stock," Tresmond said.
He adds the AR-15 will likely be back on store shelves with a different name.
