Dear Fellow New Yorker,
Since the Governor took office, he has been committed to creating jobs and putting our state on the path to prosperity. We've cut middle class tax rates to their lowest levels in sixty years and cut taxes for small businesses, while at the same time investing like never before in our institutions of higher education.
But understanding that upstate New York's economy is still lagging, the Governor and legislative leaders announced agreements on a series of landmark initiatives to jumpstart the upstate economy, create much-needed jobs, and provide relief to fiscally distressed local communities.
The Governor's bold economic agenda for upstate New York includes:
START-UP NY: Will foster entrepreneurialism and job creation on a large scale by transforming public higher education through tax-free communities across the state, particularly upstate. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
Upstate NY Gaming Economic Development Act: Will boost the upstate economy and tourism by establishing world-class destination gaming resorts to attract tourists, generate economic activity for local businesses, and create thousands of good paying jobs.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
Financial Assistance for Local Governments: Will help eligible distressed cities and local governments manage their finances and provide public services in a more cost-effective manner by establishing a Financial Restructuring Board for local governments & reforming the binding arbitration process. Yesterday's agreements are major victories for our Upstate communities as we are now set to launch what will be one of the most ambitious economic development programs our state has seen in decades.
New York is rising once again.
Sincerely,
The Office of the Governor
